Every once and awhile, Jeremy attempts to remember how everything goes together.

We took a nine day trip thru Hungary to visit the YAGM and squeezed a few days in the middle to travel into Romania for the first time.

On the Road Again.  These two can road trip.  One afternoon we did 5 hours without a stop and crossed a border into Romania.  It doesn’t seem possible to me now as I write it, but they did it.

Photo Journal for the Third week of Sept 2013. Friday.

Miriam on her morning run, she likes to run in the streets and over the bridges. Rest of the day was on the computer for her, so it is good to stretch the legs in the morn.

Busiest intersection in Bratislava right across from the Presidential palace and one block from our Apartment.

Luckily there is an underground passage way to avoid the large intersection above. And luckier still there is a green grocer in that underground passageway. When we don’t get to the open market, we get our vegetables here.

Coming up from the underground passage (we do a lot of escalating here). And who should greet us but our favorite buskers. One thing we always do is give money to people playing music on the streets, Ursula likes to drop it in the case or hat.

Random market of trinkets that is open today apparently as we walk by the Town Hall of Bratislava on our afternoon stroll.

Little fountain time in the main square. Esme was bewildering the German tourists for awhile, then almost fell in the fountain, which would make her even with Ursula who did fall in once- although they had drained most of the water when she took her dive.

Esme decided to sleep through the Italian Painting exhibit at the National Gallery today. The upstair room on a Slovak Photographer was in truth more interesting, but I did like this organ player and some very small block prints.

Miriam picked Ursula up from skola this afternoon and they took the bus home. In the back you can see some of the typical Soviet era housing blocks that make up 70% of the housing of Bratislava. Ursula’s school is in Petrazalka, which is one of the larger planned housing areas around. Now they are mostly all painted interesting colors and designs not too different than my own pre-school in a large public housing building on the West Bank of Minneapolis.

Pretty good public transit commuter. It is more fun for me though when the snow falls and we bring a sled for the pull to school from the bus stop. Nothing like getting on a bus full of adults going to work with a sled in one hand, especially after the kid is dropped off and I am by myself. Try squeezing that on in rush hour.

Day 3 Photo Journal. Thursday.

Ursula's classroom in the morning. She goes to Slovak Materska Skola from 8 till 4:30 monday thru Friday. It is all in Slovak and she does quite well.

Went for a run in the Zelezna Studienka after dropping off Ursula at school. I like to take the trails up into the forest and then pop off into these beautiful beech tree stands when I get tired of running.

All Esme wants to do is stand up, although the bruises on her face from falling down seem to indicate that she should be content to crawl. Miriam is getting ready to go to the various meetings at cafes that she has today.

One of my favorite views of Bratislava. Esme and I drove around today looking for paper filters for the Bratislava International Church's new 15 liter coffee percolator. Simply put, it ain't so easy to find filters in this here town. Anyone want to buy some circular filter paper A190.011 from somewhere and mail them over?

Dinner tonight was baked chicken from the Halal butcher nearby, mashed potatoes (which Esme loves), and some of the last of the seasons corn on the cob. And of course a salad, Miriam is never really very content with a meal unless there is something green to eat.

Taking inspiration from a colleague in South Africa (thanks Tessa!), I decided to try a little photo journal for this third week of Sept.

Thought we would start on Monday night. All things being equal we take monday nights to eat popcorn, cheese and apples and watch the Muppet Show, although today it was Popcorn, Pears and Baba Ganoush.

Tuesday morning. After taking Ursula to her Slovak School, I went for a run in the woods (hopefully pictures of both of these on another day), then came home where Esme likes to do push-ups with me.

Miriam usually does emails on Tuesdays – as in all day long Tuesday.

Esme with Cobbler for Breakfast – Larger pan please.

One of our afternoon walks in the rain today.

After school at the cafe with a good friend of Ursula.

First Bible Study of the year tonight for the Bratislava International Church. Tuesdays at 6:30. Which makes dinner a sort of catch as catch can affair. Pizza slices tonight, throw in a bath for Esme and the day is almost over.

Paddle surfing on the Morava. Due to high water levels the Morava river was transformed into a bayou and I was able to travel quite a few kilometers on it without worrying about the alligators. Thanks Martin.

Pictures from Jeremy’s two nights alone in the Vysoke Tatry for his 41st Birthday.

The Gleaners Near Mezolszilas, Hungary 2012. Drove the YAGM’s cross country last week and then tried my hand at a sketch of one of the scenes upon the way. Mostly though I remember very fast driving trucks passing each other.
